About me
Product, design and frontend code, and the tools I make outside Womp.
I studied computer science, and now I work in product, design and the frontend code. To me these are one job, not three. I like to make things, and I want each thing to be good. But the real test is whether it was useful, and that is different from whether people liked it.
Work
I lead product and design at Womp, a 3D modeling tool in the browser, and I also write its interface code. Outside Womp, I make my own tools. Kookie UI is a design system, Kookie Flow is a node editor for React, and Kookie Studio is a node canvas for AI images and video that uses both.
Standards
Everyone likes to make things, and everyone should make things they are proud of. To do your work very well is a personal responsibility. Your work does not have to be good yet, but you must admit when it is not, and continue to improve it.
Systems
Thinking in systems means letting in only what has value. A decision on a whim is not a decision, because a real decision needs thought. A design system shows this clearly. A component that sets its own margin decides a distance that belongs to its container, so a good system stops that before it can happen.
Communication
Almost every problem is a communication problem. Specialists know their own field well, but work slows down at the boundary between two fields. I believe in generalists who can take an idea from start to finish. When you make your own idea real, nothing gets lost between people.
Outside work
Each Kookie product has the name of my dog, Kookie. I collect and play records, and the albums that I listen to most are on On repeat.
